JOB TITLE: Lead Mainframe Database Analyst (Analyst, Administrator,Support, System Administrator, SQL)
DEPARTMENT: Production Services

DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW

The Production Services department is responsible for supporting ouroffices in London, Dublin and Liverpool with users spread across allsites with a resilient DR capacity at a separate site.

Current systems run in both the Microsoft O/S environment and theUnisys Libra mainframe environment(MCP, DMSII and AB Suite)

Within Production Services, The DBA team specifically provides databaseand server administration, tuning and maintenance, but also othertechnical duties as required. On the mainframe side, responsibilitiesare much broader that just data administration and cover many aspects ofserver administration.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE Lead Mainframe Database Analyst(Analyst, Administrator, Support, System Administrator, SQL) ROLE

The priority for the role is to have strong, Senior SME levelhands-on technical skills related to the Unisys mainframe.

Maintenance

- Ensure the Remedy Incident queue is kept within SLAs and changes areclosed on time
- Ensure regular DMSII maintenance jobs are run, including indexdefragmentation, BCV proving, backup restore tests
- Ensure backups/audit backups are secured for the Mainframe system asper business need with the appropriate retention policies
- Keeping up-to-date with new features/technology developments/industrypractices and proposing those that we should consider making use of
- To undertake the daily actions defined on the relevant site checklist

Technical Skills

- To support the road map for the mainframe
- To implement or follow best practice for system administration
- To understand interaction and importance of all systems insideimmediate control
- General understanding of all business critical systems
- Liaising with 3rd party suppliers in a professional manner
- To ensure that the technology environment is secure at all times
- Inform immediate management of any risks to our systems as soon asthey become apparent
- Ensure the integrity of procedures created within team
- Ensure adequate monitoring of systems and procedures under control ofthe team to minimise downtime
- To ensure DR capability and over all integrity of the systems thatfall under your control

Representing the Team to the business and other senior stakeholders, inthe absence of the Team Lead, and or during Priority incidents

Staff Management

- To be able to offer support and lead the team in the absence of theteam lead.

Projects And Change

- Carrying out ongoing projects on a day-to-day basis
- Following Change Control documentation procedures and also updatingnew procedures
- To be able to represent DBA as a stakeholder during projectimplementation and transition

Working Hours

- Associates will be required to work on a rota for: - early, late andon-call shifts
- Weekend work is also expected

Technical Knowledge of the Lead Mainframe Database Analyst (Analyst,Administrator, Support, System Administrator, SQL)

Mandatory

- Thorough Unisys Database Server knowledge of current versions (DMSII)
- Thorough knowledge of DMS tools and administration tasks (such as DBATools, reorganisations, etc.)
- Knowledge of replication products and services (e.g. Databridge)
- Good understanding of the MCP Operating System
- Reasonable understanding of Networking
- Basic understanding of the SAN environment (EMC VMAX),geo-clustering, SnapVX, BCV and SRDF
- An understanding of how a helpdesk call should be processed andescalated when necessary
- Good knowledge of Backup, Restore and DR processes/design (using DMSUtility and BCA)
- Good knowledge of performance monitoring, performance analysis andcapacity planning using tools such as GPM and Workload Manager
- Understanding of Change Control systems and processes
- Understanding of performance/risk indicators

Desirable

-Software Certification is desirable but not essential if substitutedby over 3 years relevant IT experience.
-Experience working on large and small scale projects
-Exposure to database design (including normalisation/de-normalisation)
-Exposure to design tools (such as Team Foundation Studio)
-MSSQL
-Experience of working with off-shore teams
-Cobol, Algol
